The Healthy Kids Community Challenge Georgina came third place out of 51 districts across Canada in the 60 Minute Kids Club Winter Challenge — an initiative to increase physical literacy in children and youth across Canada.

All about making healthy choices, children track their healthy behaviours, including nutrition, hydration, physical activity, screen time/sitting, sleep and mental health, with the 60 Minutes Kids Club online tracking tool.

The tool tracks each child’s healthy habits and tabulates the results into overall program participation data.

The Healthy Kids Community Challenge group includes:

• Town of Georgina After School Programs – Drop Zone at R.L. Graham P.S. and Pefferlaw After School Program

• Jericho Youth Services After School Programs at Deer Park P.S., Jackson’s Point Co-op, Bethany Co-op, Gem Theatre, Morning Glory P.S.

• Waabgon Gamig First Nation School on Georgina Island

Healthy Kids provided all participating groups with 60MKC certificates, physical activity prize bags and a celebratory fruit and veggie kebob snack party.

The Town of Georgina’s Drop Zone program out of R.L. Graham P.S. won overall amongst the Healthy Kids Community Challenge group.

They will receive a special physical activity prize pack for their program from Healthy Kids.

The 60 Minute Kids Club will be in Georgina April 22 at the Healthy Kids Physical Activity Conference to encourage all registered Georgina schools to participate in the spring challenge that runs from May 1 to 30.

Healthy Kids will provide each school and their students with a multitude of prizes, including Healthy Kids swag, recess kits and, for the overall winner, a Healthy Kids Play Day Event for the entire school.
